Approaches to Public Health: The case of child deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and its link with malnutrition
By Dr. Vandana Prasad, Public Health Resource Network
15th November 2019, 12.30 – 2.00 pm
Venue – Karampura
About the talk: Over 160 children died of AES in Bihar in July this year and an additional 60 children had died in seven other states in the same period. AES had claimed 196 young lives in 2014. It is the poor and malnourished children who die more due to such diseases and this has been a consistent pattern. AES underlines the social determination of health of populations and is a fit case to highlight conflicting approaches to public health policy and programming.
