Preparing Teachers for Early Childhood Education
This study was initiated in March 2010. Its primary objective is to review the availability, coverage and nature of pre service professional education provisions for teachers in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). The study surveyed 39 ECCE pre-service teacher education institutions on a sample basis from the four regions in the country. It reviewed the nature of the provisions in terms of content, methodology, materials, human resource and institutional capacity with the objective of assessing the extent to which these cater to the emerging requirements of ECCE across public, private, and voluntary sectors. The study was co-funded by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi and National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) and conducted in partnership with Indus World School of Education and Research (IWSER) and ICF International.
