In the early years Anirban Sengupta worked around decentralized management of primary education with special focus on village education committee. While his interest in school education has continued, since PhD he has developed interest in the broad area of entrepreneurship and has remained associated with that field. For his PhD he has worked on the interrelationship between entrepreneurship and social capital in the context of Information and Communication Technology industry in India. Afterwards, he has also worked on other aspects of Sociological significance in connection with entrepreneurship. Of late he is working on the interrelationship between entrepreneurship and discourses around urban land use in Delhi. He is also involved in research to understand development of private universities in India from the perspective of entrepreneurship.
