Dr. Rachna Chaudhary

Qualification

Rachna Chaudhary‘s disciplinary training is in Political Science and her doctoral work is in the area of feminist jurisprudence and criminology. Most of her research engages with the intersections of law and feminism. Her other research interests include Masculinity Studies, Gender and Work, and Sexuality Studies. She is currently working on a project on Women in Police with focus upon Delhi Police. She is a coconvenor of the Indian Feminist Judgments Project, with two other colleagues, Ms. Jhuma Sen and Dr. Aparna Chandra. She been a part of the Gender Studies faculty at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi since 2010. She is the coordinator of the MA Gender Studies programme since May 2022. She was the coordinator of the MA Gender Studies programme from 2012-2014. She was the co-coordinator of the AUDCWDS M.Phil./Ph.D. programmes in Women‘s and Gender Studies from September 2015-6 th January, 2019. She has taught/co-taught courses like Feminist Theories, Reading Feminist Texts, Introduction to Gender, Masculinities, Sexualities, Bodies, Feminist Movements in South Asia, Family, Introduction to Research Methods, Feminist Research Methods, Violence: Feminist Critiques and Resistances, Ways of Humans, Reading Texts in Historical Contexts, Research Methodologies with Exemplary Works to MA, M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars.

  • Presented a paper on Experiences of Indian Feminist Judgments Project at the Feminist Judgements Project Workshop titled Meeting at the Intersections of Feminist Judgments: The Indian, African and Scottish FJP Workshop, held at the Edinburgh Law School, University of Edinburgh from the 25th to the 26th of July 2019. The presentation was on 25th July, 2019 and deliberations were held on both the days.
  • Presented a paper on Contextualising Gender and Policing in Contemporary Delhi based on the Seed Money Project that she had completed in 2018, at the Research Festival, AUD, on 16th January, 2020. The panel was on State, Marginality and Emancipation.

Dr Chaudhary taught Political Science at undergraduate level at University of Delhi from 1998 to 2002. She also taught at the Vivekananda Law School (IP University, Delhi) from 2003 to 2010.

Projects

1. Principal investigator of a small Project with Seed Money Grant Research Fund, ACPRM, Ambedkar University Delhi on Contextualising Gender and Policing in Contemporary Delhi. Project completed and draft of Working Paper submitted to ACPRM, University. The duration was December 2017- October 2018.

2. Co-convenor of Indian Feminist Judgments Project, (2018 - Ongoing till date), a non-funded project. The project team conducted two workshops in 2018- May and October for participants across the country and from abroad for rewriting some key judgments from feminist perspective.

Co-organised a Roundtable on Feminism in Practice: Feminist Lawyering and Feminist Judging with other collaborating partners of IFJP on 6th October 2018, 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, at Tamarind Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Co-organised as University representative, the Second Writing Workshop of the Indian Feminist Judgments Project in collaboration with O.P. Jindal Global University and National Law University, Delhi. The workshop was titled Righting Together and was held on 6th and 7th October 2018 at NTH Complex, Qutub Institutional Area, New Delhi.
