The National Cadet Corps (NCC), with its motto “Unity and Discipline,” seeks to involve the student youth of the country by constructively utilizing their energies. NCC is an important activity for young adults. Persons get an opportunity to discover the power and potential of teamwork in situations that challenge their own abilities. The tasks and activities undertaken in NCC help youth unleash their creative potential in human relations while giving them exposure to ground realities. Youth learns the key to cooperative and harmonious living while engaging in activities like camping, etc while at the same time they imbibe a sense of commitment and camaraderie as they work closely with the larger community. NCC draws out the potential of the youth as it works closely for community development in times of peace as well as natural or human-caused calamities.
The NCC gives tremendous opportunity to one and all for betterment, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or economic status and aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.
In the three years of the training programme, NCC will provide the cadets with basic military training exposing them to the regimental way of life. The cadets will have the opportunity to attend various annual training camps, even be qualified (in the final year) for an Attachment Camp at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. In addition, cadets of NCC will be able to avail the opportunities for participation in various adventure activities, like Rock Climbing, Trekking, Cycle Expeditions, White Water Rafting, Para-trooping, Civil Defence, Self Defence, Aero Modelling and Horse Riding etc.
